Dear Parents and Swimmers,
As we transition into the colder months. I want to share some tips to keep everyone warm and healthy this season.
When we wear wet clothes, we lose body heat about five times faster than when dry. This happens because the water has a considerably higher heat conductivity than air. Staying in cold clothes for an extended period can leave your immune system more open to infections.
After swimming, please dry off to maintain your body temperature. Bring a towel allowing you to dry off completely before getting dressed. Once you're dry, change into warm clothes to prevent heat loss.
Dressing appropriately for the weather is also essential. Please check the forecast and consider layering clothing to stay warm in the morning and night. A warm hat and coat as you transition from the warmth of the pool to the chilly outdoors.
Being prepared can make all the difference. When in doubt, it is better to be warm than cold; you can always shed or put layers back on. However, you cannot put on a jacket if you do not have one.
By following these steps, we can help everyone prevent sickness this winter. Thank you for your attention to these important details.
Yours in swimming,
Coach Colter
